WHAT is the nothern light?
The northern lights or Aurora borealis are a phenomenon caused by collisions between the molecules and atoms in the Earth’s atmosphere and the sun’s electrically charged particules. This light show is produced in the upper atmosphere around 100 kilometers.
One of the best places in the world to observe the northern light is Greenland.
Aurora Borealis in Greenland
This phenomenon occurs all year but only can be seen during the winter months in Greenland due to the midnight sun ( that I explain later ).The Aurora Borealis is often seen around midnight and is better on a dark night, clear night in the period from September to the beginning of April. In this period, the northern lights can be seen from anywhere in the country, whilst in South Greenland the Aurora Borealis can be seen from as early as the end of August.
